Defining The Forest Stewardship Council'S Role
However, not all was lost at the Earth Summit in Rio. One of the major contributions of the Earth Summit in Rio was the creation of the Forest Stewardship Council. Therefore, the Forest Stewardship Council has sought since it's founding to create a new kind of dialogue about forestry. Changing the dialogue about forestry is an important part of implementing practices that help to create a sustainable forestry movement around the world. The Forest Stewardship Council has certainly been successful in creating a new kind of dialogue concerning sustainable forestry. However, although the Forest Stewardship Council is set on defining new and innovative ways to think about forestry around the world. More specifically, the Forest Stewardship Council has sought to produce a worldwide standard concerning the environmental, economic and social concerns about forestry around the world. Forest Stewardship Council is unique among environmental organizations because it is much like the forestry profession in the way that many different groups have stakes in the Forest Stewardship Council. Since its inception at the Earth Summit in Rio, the Forest Stewardship Council has developed programs and standards that are now used in over 57 countries around the globe. The national chapter of the Forest Stewardship Council was established in 1995 and headquartered in Washington D.C. The purpose of this national chapter of the Forest Stewardship Council is to coordinate several of the programs and overall development of the forest management standards created by the Forest Stewardship Council. The Forest Stewardship Council has created several standards that are used throughout different regions of the United States. The Forest Stewardship Council national chapter is also charged with disseminating information to the public regarding certification. The Forest Stewardship Council is also charged with certifying many different organizations that are charged with promoting Forest Stewardship Council certification. Although the Forest Stewardship Council has flagship offices around the world, the national Forest Stewardship Council in the United States is located in the nation's capital, Washington D.C., and the official international headquarters for the Forest Stewardship Council is located in Bonn, Germany. The Forest Stewardship Council has an official contact person located in each of the national offices in over 40 different countries. All of these different national offices form the international Forest Stewardship Council global network. The Forest Stewardship Council continues to advocate creative solutions and common ground in its goal to bring everyone to the table when it comes to discussing global issues of forestry. |
